Granophone

The answering machine for dementia patients

and their caretakers

Share calls among family members

Calls can be distributed to everyone in the family, rather than being handled by one person. Caretakers can take turns receiving calls, easing the burden for everyone.

Control when you get calls

No more midnight calls. Specify a time range during which you are available. If other caretakers are available when you are not, calls will be directed to them while you are away.

Give yourself breaks

Speaking to a loved one suffering from dementia can be overwhelming.

Schedule automated breaks ranging from an hour per call to several days if needed. Other caretakers can answer calls while you are on break, allowing you to recharge and handle your next call with warmth and love.

Heartfelt messages when no one one is available

Most voicemail greetings are not reassuring to hear.

Granophone lets you record personalized messages that are played back when no one can pick up the phone.

You can leave multiple messages that are played at random or in batches, so every call is unique even when no one is available.

Everyone in the family can leave messages, making it easy to build a large group of personalized messages. Granophone offers prompt suggestions, ranging from stories to messages of gratitude.

Keep track of which messages are listened to and which are skipped, allowing you to build a tailored list of heartwarming stories that they can come back to.

No hardware required

Granophone works with the phone system that your parents or grandparents are already familiar with.

Your family gets a dedicated phone number that intercepts calls.

You can set up and manage Granophone remotely, and your loved one can continue using the phone they are familiar with.

Our Story

Granophone was created as a side project to help our family manage my Grandmother’s advanced dementia.

My father carried the brunt of the responsibility, and I saw first hand the effect it had on him. I built the first version of Granophone as a way of distributing the workload to everyone in our family and to give us tools to manage our stress, allowing us to be better and more loving caregivers.

After watching the positive impact this technology has had on our family, I started speaking to other families and realized we were not alone. Encouraged by this, I built Granophone as a way to share this solution with others who may benefit from it.

Granophone is currently in an early beta, and is free to use while we get feedback from other families. If you think this may be helpful to for your situation, click on the Get Started button to reach out to us!
